Hundreds of relatives continued to search for bodies of stampede victims at hospitals in Phnom Penh after at least 375 were killed and many remained missing. Photos of victims were posted on the board at hospitals to help families identify their loved-ones as many were still tracking down missing family members since the stampede broke out at Diamond Gate Bridge on the last day of the three-day water festival night.
For those who found the bodies of their relatives, they would have produce their family book and identity cards in order to pick up the corpse. At Calmette Hospital, one of three hospitals that are handling the bodies and treating the injured, officials said three bodies remained unclaimed among 142 bodies that were sent to the hospital. The body count stood at 375 late evening and was expected to rise as the search for bodies continues.
Scores of people leapt to their deaths from the pedestrian bridge, unable to swim and dragged under water amid frantic splashing as desperate and panicked people plunged down from above. While many victims drowned, most perished while trapped under the weight of hundreds of fleeing revellers.
