The fast flow of cold lava of Mount Merapi has caused a number of villages on the slopes of the mountain to be isolated. Not only that cold lava floods have also caused changes of direction to river flows. Of course cold lava flows continue to flood a number of rivers in Magelang in central Java.
The rivers that originate on Mount Merapi, Putih, Bebeng and Krasak rivers in Srumbung in Magelang are filled with huge rock and thick sand covering two dams that connect two villages. As a result the rivers are flowing in new directions and a number of villages located near the rivers are becoming isolated.
According to resident named Nur Said, resident are forced to take new routes for as far as 20 kilometers, because the bridge of Kali Putih that connects Srumbung and Pandansari villages is covered with huge rocks and wood. Local officials are warning residents to remain cautious, since cold lava flows will continue to happen especially when it rain heavyily.
