During the hajji pilgrimage, a pilgrim from Mataram west Nusa Tenggara, recently gave birth safely to a baby boy in Madinah. The birth has become an issue because the Saudi Arabian hajj affairs departement has banned pregnant woman from conducting the hajj.
English News Service reported from Arab Saudi that Fitri Prihartini Tohri a hajj pilgrim from flight group number 42 of Surabaya gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Weighing two point eight kilograms on Monday evening at the Safa Hospital in Madinah. 23 year old Fitri could not be sent home since she and her babay are still being treated at Safa Hospital.
Doctor Siti Nur Azizah a medical staff member of the 42nd flight group of Surabaya said the pilgrim left for the hajj ritual without being accompanied by her husband and did not show any signs of being pregnant. The Indonesian religious affairs ministry admintted to being careless in the matter.
Health official were unaware as Fitri was able to hide her pregancy under the Moslem attire that pilgrims must wear during the pilgrimage. A urine test before her departure did not show that Fitri was pregnant. After complaining of stomach cramps, Fitri was taken to Safa Hospital in Madinah and gave birth to a baby boy.
