The state minister for women's empowerment and child protection Linda Gumelar warned parents of the Merapi eruption to be careful of possible offerings that would lead to child trafficking. As of today luckily there has been no official report on children victims of the Mount Merapi eruption being illegally adopted and become victims of human trafficking.
When the Merapi disaster occured, many children were separated from their parents when evacuation process took place. However through aid from officials and also volunteers. These children were able to be re-united with their parents. This was said by minister Linda Gumelar after attending a signing of a joint agreement between a number of ministries on improving the social welfare of street children in Jakarta today.
Parents victims of the Mount Merapi disaster are reminded to avoid cases such as human trafficking and child molestation in the midst of disaster. Meanwhile social affairs minister, Salim Segaf Al Jufrie reminded the strategic role of all ministries including the police force in protecting and improving the social welfare of street children.
