Tens of cows killed by the mount Merapi eruption were destroyed on Thursday ( 18/11 ). The burning of these dead cows had to be done to prevent the spread of disease. Most of these dead cows were scattered near residential homes. With the assistance of 26 mariners, the cows were destroyed in two villages in Balerante in Dukuh Banjarsari and Ngipingsari.

The decision to destroy the dead cows was taken following the many requests from residents and also from the Klaten disaster handling taskforce. Before the burning of these animals was carried out plans to spray desinfectant to kill germs and bacteria carried by these dead animals totalled about 300. Spread over four areas that were worst affected by the lava flow. The four villages are Banjarsari, Ngipingsari, Sambungrejo and also Gondang.

Residents of the Ngargomulyo village of Magelang, Central Java, braces for the worst. As mount Merapi climbs the eruption allert status. Residents are now training themselves to improve allertness in case they need to get away from the area.

The village five kilometre west of Mount Merapi, has also come up with evacuation prosedures for its two thousand and seven hundred residents. Since Mount Merapi began climbing the allert status, residents have shifted the function of local Mosque's loudspeakers as a means to warn them of the danger of eruption.

Village leaders have also dispersed maskers to protect residents from vulcanic ashes and installed pointers to let residents know where they are going when moving away from the village.
